Summary :

The management of dredged sediments as part of a circular economy implies a territorial anchoring in order to take into account the realities on the ground for any type of beneficial use solution. This requires a geographical model of the area that also incorporates the views of local stakeholders.

In the case of the Rance estuary (Brittany, France), the aim of sediment dredging is to minimise the impact of oversedimentation linked to the operation of the tidal power plant since 1966. To achieve this objective, the “Etablissement Public Territorial de Bassin Rance Frémur Baie de Beaussais”, which is currently the public body in charge of sediment management in the Rance estuary, relies on reclamation through agricultural spreading. However, the new sediment management plan, which is still under discussion with local stakeholders, raises the question of how to diversify the beneficial us opportunities and the territorial capacity to absorb increased volumes of dredged material.
